Last year I used Solidworks to get the rotational inertia of some complex geometry parts.
I used the data to feed a MATLAB routine to calculate the equivalent rotational mass of my system.
The process was quite tedious. and went something like that:
1-open each individual part and click on its mass properties
2-copy it and paste it on a txt. document
3-write a sub-routine in matlab to sort the right information (rotational inertia) from the useless ones (center of mass, volume, etc)
Without further stalling, the question is: there is some way to direct export the rotational inertia of a part without opening it?
I don't know of a direct way without opening the file but a macro might be helpful. Here is one example: Get Mass Properties of Active Document Example (VBA)
I don't think there is a way, but this link might help you.
