Attached is a right hand bracket. How can I copy this part, rename as left hand bracket, and reverse the bend (opposite direction) without doing any changes. Like a mirror image.
The first part all you have to do is in windows explorer just copy it to a different location and then if you RC
on it you will see the SW tools to rename it. Or you can call it up and do a file save as copy then give it a new name there.
I tried this and what I ended up doing was doing the file save as and called the saved name the left side.
Then I called it up and just placed the chamfer on the opposite side. I tried the mirror in the assembly and it did not mirror the
chamfer so that doesn't work.
The part I created for the left side is done in 2011 and I suspect you are on an older version so you wouldn't be able to call it up.
Unless yo want me to iges it out. Let me know.
Well I was able to mirror the part by picking another plane, then mirror part. Rename as mirror image. But how would I be able to modify one part and not linked to the other. Because I tried to add a hole on one part, the other part was linked together and automatically have a hole.
I got it.
I did the file>sve as copy and changed "right" to "left" in the file name. I did get some message stating to the effect that
both this file and the original could not be open at the same time. I accepted that and proceeded to change up the left side part.
When I said before that what you were experiencing happened to me it did, but when I went back to my model I closed out the left one
and still had the right side one open and noticed it had not changed. I inserted it into my assembly and this the pic you see above.
What version are you running?
I was able to unlink the 2 parts. I have attached a pic as reference. Right click <right side brkt>, then insert into new part. Then you should be able to unlink both parts.
So you inserted the right side part into another part and called it the left side?
If it works great, never would have guess that. So I guess your way and mine are two ways to accomplish the same thing.
What I'm going to suggest, doesn't unlink anything but is usually what I do for creating right and left handed parts.
Mirror the body. Create a new configuration, so that I have a left and a right configuration.
Delete the original body in the mirrored configuration and suppress the mirror in the original configuration.
Then if you want features like that hole to be only suppressed in the right or left configuration, you can just suppress whatever features for an individual configuration.
I'm using version 2010.
I suspected you were using an older one.
Glad we got this resolved anyway.
Just check "Break link to original part" when you create the mirrored part. You will get all the sheet metal features in the new part this way.
