Hello,
I have a Nvidia quadro fx 570 graphics card that is currently making noise when I rotate assemblies in solidworks. The best way to describe the noise is that it sounds like there is a cricket in my tower. I'm just checking aroudn to see if anyone else has ever faced anything like this.
I updated to the most recent driver for the card yesterday and it did not solve the issue.

It is not the fan, but I am not sure if it is the hard disk or not. I just assumed it was the video card because the only time it happens is while rotating a complex model or a model with transparent parts. It does not continue when rotating is stopped.
I also have the issue of parts distorting while rotating a model.
How can I tell if it is the hard disk making the noise?
Are you sure it's not the CPU fan? When I spin my models I hear the CPU cooler fan speed up. Download and istall SpeedFan or HWMonitor. Rotate the model and see if the CPU Fan speed increases.
I would bet a beer it is your GPU fan. That is the tale tell sign of it starting to die. The bearing is starting to go.

We had a Quadro card once start making noises off and on. Not the typical fan whirring sounds.
Turned out to be the fan, but the bearing in it was failing, making annoying noises like you describe. Kind of squeaky.
Also look to see if they are filled with dust and other assorted stuff not belonging there.
Ok I downloaded and ran both programs and haven't come up with any really clear information. The CPU fan definitely speeds up while rotating a model, but the noise starts and stops instantly when I start or stop rotating, and from what I can tell, the fan does not speed up and slow down instantaneously.
I am no computer expert so I definitely thank all of you for your help!
What about the fan on your video card (GPU)? Those will go out and your card is old enough for the fan bearing to be going bad.

Oh I see, well I can't find a way to get a reading on the GPU fan speed. I apologize for the confusion, looks like I need to work on my reading comprehension skills!

This windows widget monitors the GPU performance, it can be configured to show fan speed and other interesting info.

We had this same problem in one workstation with FX570. Just pulled the card out, dropped a drop of grease to the fan bearing and now it has been running over a year without noise or any problem.
I'll bet it is the hard disk. Does your computer tower have a read/write light on the front? Does it blink in unison with the noise?
It has a read/write light that blinks, but not in unison with the noise.
Ok, then back to the video card fan theory. open up your case, and watch the fan. Perhaps a can of compressed air will help temporarily, but if the fan is making squeaks, then its time is limited already.

Hey, I just had the same problem and it wasn't the GPU fan or a disk. It comes out of the speakers. Rotating the model causes some clock signal to contaminate the audio output, so it comes out of the speakers as a clicking noise. I know this thread is old, but if anybody new finds this, try unplugging or turning off your speakers to isolate the noise.
Is the cooling fan spinning faster to compensate for the extra load on the GPU? If that is the case it will be delayed compared with the spinning of the model. It will start a few seconds after you start rotating, and then it will continue on for 20+ seconds after you stop.
Are you sure it is the video card, and not the hard disk?
