Problem with deleting virtual parts after assembly has been checked in

I have a subassembly with a virtual part in it. I checked it into Enterprise. Then I decided to save the virtual part out to an external part. When I went to check the subassembly back in, there were no problems. However, when I tried to check in a parent assembly that was referencing my subassembly that USED to have a virtual part in it, i get a stop sign on check in because this virtual part that i deleted has been modified locally. This happens only when my subassembly is not checked out. If my subassembly is checked out, I will have no problems and the parent assembly will check in just fine, along with my subassembly which now has a new version as well. How can I fix this??
