Is there a way to use a custom weldment shape, (extrusion) that follows a spline or series or ards, and has a variable extrusion profile angle from the staring point to the ending point?
You can create a welment shape that follows a spline or series of arcs, but you can't vary the profile along the path. It also sounds like you're asking if there is a twist along path option for weldments, which there isn't. You can possibly try the flex feature after creating the weldment, although I tried this and it doesn't seem to work. To create the shape that you require, you'll most likely have to use a sweep. If you're working in a weldment part, a sweep will get added to your cut list, but you won't be able to use trim/extend on the body.
Thanks Rohit, You found the same things that I ran into. What I'm trying to do is: If you start with a simple u shaped channel sketch and rotate it 45 deg to the right- this being the profile and sweep it along a spline shape. At the end point of the sweep, the profile will be rotated 45 deg as was the starting sketch, but I need it to have only 10 deg at the end and the profile angle slowly rotates from the start to the end, but not consistantly. Can another guide curve be used? Problem is by the time I figure out where a guide curve needs to be I might as well make a 2D drawing like in the good 'ol days.... ???
If you weren't looking for an inconsistent rotation rate, the twist along path option would give you what you want. If your rotation rate (per unit length of the path profile) is at least piecewise constant, you can make it using multiple sweeps with the twist along path option, one for each piece.
Otherwise, there is an option for sweeping using guide curves and it should do what you want with a proper guide curve. It and the twist along path option are under the Orientation/twist type pull down.
