I had recently been told by another colleague who is more familiar with SW that when you hit about 50% of the available system memory you will start to see performance issues. Is this accurate? We are using SW 2012 sp2.
Yes & No! It depends on the OS type (x32 or x64) and amount of RAM.
Yes, if the system only has a small amount of RAM to begin with.
No, if the system has 128GB of RAM. 50% usage would mean there is still 64GB available.
Must be rough to "only" have 64gb left!
We're a little more limited here. The system in question is running 12gb and the engineer has not seen it run over 6gb, I believe.
There will always be slower response to the system as a whole when you consume more RAM. But to say that you see a noticable hit when you reach 50% is not what I see here. On this current project, I have loaded up to 13 Gb out of 16 Gb and don't know that I can say it's much worse than loading 6 Gb.
