Back here in This Thread, I got a great tip on how to ensure that the Description property from my SW files was read from the correct configuration for display in the File List Column I'd created. Now I have a new problem.
I use the same variable (Description) for other documents that are Excel spreadsheets. The variable is mapped to custom properties in the Excel sheet and all works well, but since I changed the Description column to "Look for variable in given list of configurations" I've got nothing showing for a Description for my Excel docs. I suppose that's because Excel sheets don't have configurations, and I don't know what "configuration" I should enter in the list so the a spreadsheet property will still be read...
I hope that's understandable...
After putting out many other fires, I called my (incredibly helpful) VAR support tech, and she pointed me to the answer, which I somehow missed before (pretty obvious to me now - DOH!)
When you click the '+' button to add a configuration to look into, one of the options is to read variables from files that do not have configurations. Just what I wanted, and right in front of my eyes... guess I need new glasses!!
My support tech mentioned that when using this feature, the <Files without configurations> value should be at the top of the list, before any specific configs are listed.
