Could potentially be in the wrong discussion area but I figured it could be an API topic...

I've seen a previous post elsewhere on a similar topic:

Basically I'm looking for a way to link an appearance to a custom property value for finish.  For example if I apply brushed brass to a part it would automatically generate a custom property for "part finish" as brushed brass.

Any help would be great as it's got me stumped!!
