im importing a part and converting it to sheet metal. it seems no matter what i do it cuts the bend region in certain parts. iv tried dissabling it or even changing the type but nothing works its always there. how can i get rid of this annoying auto relief?

I am guessing you have tried selecting the tear option for relief cut? Can you post the part?
I'v tried selecting tear, obround it doesnt make a difference nothing changes. unfortunatly no i cannot post the part.

yes i have done this many times. i was just hoping to avoid that step. i dont understand why it would do it on one side and not the other. they are identical geometry wise.
so your saying its not possible to deactivate this?

You mentioned that you are importing the part and converting it to sheet metal, since you can't upload the part for us to try different stuff for you, I will make one suggestion that I would have tried here.
If the part comes in in the basic shape that you show, I would get rid of the corner radius's and make the part a solid 3D, then rip the corners and insert the bends, then select tear and it should come up better than what it shows.

i think your missing the point John. i am try to eliminate unesessary steps. i have no problem filling in the areas SW decides to cut away for no reason. what im looking to do is try to prevent it from happening in the first place without adding more time consuming steps. i was really hoping for an overlooked setting somewhere but i guess i'll just continue to fix models after the fact.

If such a large bend radius isn't required or won't be actually used then I would suggest reducing the bend radius. That should eliminate the cuts.

I deleted the Sheet metal features and your imported part is like that, SW can't insert material where you need it. Unless you can make some changes you got what you got.
If you design a part from scratch you can add the tear relief instead of the rectangular relief, but not a part that has already been designed in another program.

i dont understand what you mean by "your imported part is like that". do you get the 3 extra relief cuts(only on one side of the bend) when you convert it to sheet metal? why does it effect one side and not the other?
I used featureworks to make these 2 radius smaller. The problem was that the radius was running into the bend and then wanted to create a relief. I just made the 2 radius to R.09 and the part worked fine.

thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.
Try this trick I just found. I created this part as a solid with fillets on the corners to be bent. Added a shell to the correct thickness for the material. I then had to suppress the fillet so I could add a rip in the corners. This rip was only .001" to show the capibilities. The fillets were unsuppressed and bends were added from the sheet metal menu. This utilizes round bends instead of sharp bends. Round bends seem to be more accurate than sharp. Now I may find something about using round bends I don't like later but for now I'm impressed.
