Try selecting the option under the selection drop-down, it's inconspicuously hidden under there.
It depends on witch version of sw you use. From 2008 or 2009 you can press "s" key in assembly and you have select (arrow) with options. On 2010 you have the option "Select Toolbox". In other versions you can define a selection criteria (Advanced select).

I don't think so, at least not without a macro. Depending on your situation, wouldn't using the replace components feature work? Then you wouldn't need to re-do all of your mates.
