I am interested in knowing, How you use SolidWorks Assembly Explode view functionality and What limitation of this funtionality makes your usage intent difficult?
I use it for assembly instructions, how to put the pieces together. It would be much better if we could rotate a component. Some pieces you cannot just translate; you have to translate, rotate, and then translate again.
Do you create multiple exploded view to do the assembly instruction and then bring them in drawings to document or just one exploded view in assembly and then take snapshots of it at various stages to use it in documentation?
I have done this two ways. First is multiple exploded views on a drawing. Second method is creating an animation in the assembly using the wizard to explode and collapse, then publishing as an eDrawing and distributing the EASM file.
Yes, with this second method I could use animator to rotate the part, but one more piece of software to remember how to use.
3DVIA could also do this, but on top of remembering how to use the software, it is expensive for small organizations that only need it for assembly instructions.
Easiaer methods also required to create multiple broket out section in Exploded view in Drawing to show more detail,
Wayne requirement is much needed enhancement in exploded view. I also need this in multibody part exploded view.
multi directional auto explode required some time. this is functionality is available in 3d via but not in SolidWorks
It was tweeted today about SolidWorks World, so I guess it is public knowledge and I will not get into trouble to repeat here. 2013 will allow rotation of parts when exploding. Also a needed feature of having more than one explosion per configuration.
Hi Wayne and Satish
I will stongly recommend you to visit your enhacement request page then search for following enhacement to vote for it. This will help increasing the priority of the enhancement for future releases.
SPR 581063: " Allow a component to be rotated in an explode view step as well as being translated"
I would like an exploded view to stay exploded when trying to insert another part or assembly. If I have a part or assy that fits into a part or assy in its exploded state, it would be great if it could stay exploded. Or how about letting a user create a configuration automatically out of an exploded assy?
