Hello Folks,
I have been asked to produce some renderings for the company website (first attempts below), just wanted some advice, as im sure many of you have had to do this.
I want to produce some high res images but need to keep the file size to a minimum, would you A: Under output image size select a low ratio to produce a small render. or B: Render the image in a large ratio and then compress the image using a third party program (If such a thing exists?)
Thanks for the help in advance.
Alex,
I think your final decision will be based on your workflow and image needs...
If your looking for realistic images and have a decent workstation, rendering out a large resolution image will you greater detail to work with later in a 3rd party app like Photoshop. Shadows, textures and other details would be much more time consuming to perfect outside of SW. This also allows you to resize/compress to whatever size AND eases grief later when Marketing quickly demands a poster size shot for a show. The downside is, of course, render time and exacting camera angles.
If the image styles and angles are still in concept phase, then many smaller images direct from SW would be perfect(as above images). Consider the final size of image needed and whether shadows, lighting and 'real' colors are distracting. On smaller images, clarity is key. Also, nail down 'for website' ONLY — 72dpi for web vs. 300dpi for print.
I'll typically create final high res,as I'm never sure how they're going to be used and this allows me some room for post 'shopping! Hope that helps. My 2¢. Renders are looking good:)
