Problem w/ Saving Motion Study

Hi people.

For some reason solidworks does not save a motion study I am making. What's weird though is that the first motion study I created in my assy file (named Motion Study 2, since Motion Study 1 is the default tab) stays saved, but the second motion study I created (which I renamed something other than Motion study) does not get saved and disappears each time I open my assembly. It takes me a long time to prepare these motion studies so I need to find a solution for this problem urgently.

Another side of this problem is that view orientations I create to use in the motion study do not get saved either.

Any ideas?

I've never had that problem as mine always save when the assembly is save. Just throwing this out, but are you saving the assembly after creating the motion study? Until, the assembly is saved, the motion study just resides in RAM and is lost if you close the assembly without saving.

Also a good idea to do a forced rebuild of the assembly while still in the MotionManager before saving the assembly.

Beyond that, what version and SP of SW are you using?

  I am saving the assembly after creating the motion study as you pointed. Also I have been force rebuilding before saving. The first time I realized the motion study settings were gone I did think that maybe I did not save it after creating the motion study. Regardless, I created the same study again, recorded, rendered without Photoview and proceeded to rendering with Photoview at 24 FPS. This time, I received a message that read "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file"
  
  So I restarted the program after that and the motion study was gone. This time I was sure that I saved it before closing SW. I am using SW2012 SP1.0 by the way. SP2.0 is downloaded but I haven't installed it yet.
  
  So today I recreated the motion study and did not want to risk losing it again by closing SW. First time I tried the photoview rendering @ 24 fps I did not get the error message I mentioned until 3-4 hours later. But the next several trials it appeared after the 10th minute or so. I have another discussion for that problem, it basically states the same.

    As having a motion study not save properly when the assembly is saved is an odd problem, and one that I haven't seen reported elsewhere, the next place to look is at your specific files and your computer.
    
    Is your computer shut down on a regular basis or do you just let it run? Many of the odd/unique problems that have been reported in the past have developed when computers are not rebooted unless they crash. So, if you do not shut down regularly and do a cold reboot, that is one of the first things I would try. Next would be to Save and close the assembly after putting in just a few key points of your animation and seeing if it saves. This way you won't lose too much if it doesn't save. Next step is to see if the same problem occurs on another assembly to determine if the problem is unique to one specific assembly or if it happens to all assemblies on your computer.
    
    As you are running into a unique problem, it is unlikely that it is a problem with the SW code as if that were the case, we should hear of a lot of people running into the problem. So, the most likely cause is a corruption in either your specific installation or a particular file, but that is just a guess on my part.

      I shut down my computer about once a week. I think there is a significant chance that it will be able to complete the rendering process without any problems if I go ahead and do that. On the other hand I do not know if it will save the motion study.
      
      I dig your adding a few keys and saving idea. The problem is there is no saved version of the motion study. So if I lose anything I don't just lose a few keypoints, I lose it all.
      
      I'm currently running a shorter animation for a simpler assembly to see if that runs into the same problem as well. I'll let you know about the outcome.
