2012 lag when changing dimension in assembly

Since upgrading to 2012 I'm seeing a lot of lag when I change a dimension in an assembly. If I edit the part in the assembly and change the dim I do not see this lag, if i double click on a part so the dim's show up, then click on the dim that is when I see the lag. The lag in this assembly is 30+ seconds.

Unfortunately this is the second year in a row that I've updated to sp.1 and I see lag in my assembly. Last year it was with the mating and it took me months to figure it out, my VAR could not figure it out. In that case it was caused by having the "sw-material" in my property value under my assembly template. I really do enjoy working with solidworks but this is discouraging having this happen 2 years in a row. So far I have not been able to track down what is causing this and it is happening across the board with the 6 designers in our company.

I guess i'm the only one seeing this. I'll upgrade to sp2 see if that works, if not I'll build an assembly with a solidworks default assembly template.

Were the graphics drivers updated after upgrading to SW12?

You are not the only one. There are quite a few of us. I think the people who don't have to get anything done with any reasonable amount of urgency are the ones who are not noticing this ridiculous problem.

I'm not running 2012 yet, so I have no direct experience, positive or negative. Since a 30 second lag would drive most any designer crazy, and since not many people are reporting problems, I think the issue is one seen by only a few people. It may have something to do with the way you work, with the way you have your systems set up, with the hardware you are running, or, more likely, some combination of the above.

As an example of what I mean, I almost never double click on a part so that the dimensions show up. The odds are that I would never even see the problem. If I did see it, I would not take the time to investigate it and would never bother to report it here or to my VAR. I'm pretty sure that quite a few people do use the double-click on a part method, so I suspect that there is some difference in the way you have your systems set up or the hardware you are using that causes problems for you, but not for many others. That makes it really hard to track down the cause of the problem. If not many people are complaining, SolidWorks and the VARs are not going to put much, if any, effort into finding and fixing it.

The good new is that Tim managed to track down the previous problem with a material property in a template. The bad news is, you may have to change the way you work if you can't find the root cause for this one.
