how much is difference in performance between these two setups:
HP EliteBook 8560w i7-2630QM 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6FHD NVIDIA Quadro 1000M
HP Workstation z400 CMT Xeon W3565 6x2 GB nVidia Quadro 2000 1.0GB Intel SATA 750 GB
Why are you comparing with the z400? Why not a z210? z210 are faster and cheaper for most solidworks users.
We have z400 and i'm planning to buy 8560w laptop and want to know how good that laptop is compared to z400 with those nVidia drivers
It will be marginally slower. 80-90% of the speed? That's my "shoot from the hip" answer. It should not "feel like a dog", but it won't have the same zip, either. It should, however, boot faster, and saving files will be faster, thanks to the SSD.
I think the overall Windows user experience may be a touch faster, but the true SolidWorks experience (rebuilds, video card performance), will be a touch slower.
The z210 and z400 are about the same price configured the same, but the z400 allows you greater options on processors, memory, and video cards.
I would prefer configuring the standard HP PCs as you can get faster processors cheaper (the Xeons are over priced and lag behind in speed). But HP doesn't allow you to add the CAD grade video cards to anything other than their workstation line. They also limit other options.......I guess less variables for them and a more dumbed down selection for the average user.
HP doesn't give you the ability to build what you want fully.....unfortunately we have to use them as a company standard.
