....the correct solution if available?

I spent an hour yesterday reading very similar posts so I know this has probably been answered but I cannot find the exact solution - I know someone knows were its at

I need to take a top level assembly and come up with a BOM with correct qtys for ordering and such. I'm looking for a macro or and excel solution...anything really that will make this top level bom thing less of a nightmare. Currently I produce an indented BOM, hide what I don't need (weldment components, virtual parts, ect..), export to excel and sort by part number. Then I have to add all the like part numbers that were used in various sub assemblies. In a 2000 part assy, that's a pain.

Any help would be ultra appreciated!!!!

Use the Parts Only option when creating the BOM, then export to Excel and sort.

For future, maybe you could add a property to the parts to help in the sorting. e.g. Make or Buy

That actually is not a complete solution - it ignores all my sub assemblies and any purchased components that come in as assemblies....it does however help me account for parts that are used across multiple subs. I need a solution that will provide a complete and accurate BOM from the top level assembly. Unless there's a setting I'm missing to include the subs?
