I am trying to create a part that represents a length of rubber with holes punched in it.. When the rubber is installed it is wrapped around a cylinder.  I can create the part in sheet metal with the holes and unwrap it but the holes are obviously deformed as they were created in the rolled state. 

What I want to do is create this as you would in the factory, flat rubber, add holes and then wrap to install but can't figure out how.

This may be more suitable to the Sheet Metal forum, I am not sure.

I have attached the part that I initially created for info.
