I have a sheet metal part w/ several perf patterns. The assembly level adds fasteners, nothing else. The part has only the default config. The assembly has two configs: default and Hide Perfs. Once the the perf patterns are suppressed in the Hide Perfs config, they remain suppressed in the default config. What am I missing?

You would need to add another configuration at part level other than Default which will have perf patterns suppressed. And then use them accordingly in the assembly configurations.
The part level now has a new config w/ the perf patterns suppressed. However, the assembly's Hide Perf config has the perfs visible and will not allow suppression of the perfs.
The intent is to be able to show or hide the perf patterns on various drawing sheets.

Don't suppress the perfs in the assembly. Just choose which part config to use in each assembly config. You can do this in the assembly desing tree by RMB the component, select "Configure Component" and then selecting the correct part config for each assy config.

RMB as you described shows the assy configs, not the part configs.
You are still missing the finer points here. You need to have 2 configs in the part and 2 configs in the assy. The no-perf assy config needs to call the no-perf part config. The drawing for no-perf needs to call the no-perf assy config. And vice-versa.

You will note in my reply to Deepak that there are now 2 configs at each level.
My understanding of creating configs (faint as that may be) is to suppress or unsuppress features etc. for each named config.
As mentioned above, although the perfs are suppressed in the part, they are still visible in the assy level config. When I attempt to suppress the perfs w/in the assy config, the perfs remain- 'suppress' does not execute.
Based on the words you chose to use I think what you are trying to do is actually suppress the perf feature in the assy. Instead, in the assy, you need to just change the referenced config of the part to the one that has the perfs suppressed.
If you are still having problems, can you post the drawing, assy, and part?

The perf patterns are sppressed at the part level, but not at assy. So, within the Hide Perf config of the assy, I was trying to suppress the perf patterns of the part. In the assy, the part in the design tree is shown as Hide Perf Bottom config.
How about posting the files?
