Ye ha, happy days,
After a year of asking for a new cad machine I have just been given permision to order...... order has know been placed.
Goodbye 32 bit and 4gigs of ram......
Good morning Greg,
Congrats, don't burst your face with all those smilies :
Congratulations ... so what did you order?
i7 2600k 3.4ghz
windows 7 64bit
160gb SATA ssd for program files
1000gb harddrive for document storage
office 2010 home and business
I really would like to know how old you will be once you fill up your 1,000 gb, you should have enough of space to videograph your life, WOW
Actually going to be two of them, configured in raid mirrored.
Better than running out.
I want one too!
In 6 months it will be obsolete.....
Did you order enough for all or your friends here on the forum?
Always a pecimist!!!
I'm trying to be a pecimist. The 2600K is already obsolote. The 2700K has replaced it.
dude i have been askin for a new machine for 2 years, still waiting what did you say, or do ;-) to get them to upgrade. Need ur secrets, or stuck in land or 4gb ram for the rest of my life.
Scott - I don't think this works like bringing gum to class where you are expected to share but wouldn't life be dandy if that were the case!
its great greg.................
Good afternoon Greg,
I bet you can't sleep, your soon getting as many responses on this as you are in your picture post!!!!!!!
Hopefully your going to see similar differences what I have seen here.
There is nothing like an old slow computer that's almost on it's last leg and you got to do a large assembly of over 3,000 pcs. One assembly it took almost 30 minutes to load, for part of the reason was I had to open the main sub-assemblies first, if I didn't it crashed, oh well troubles are behind.
Are you going to overclock it? I believe have seen others get the chip up to 4.5Ghz with proper cooling.
Scott, its for all the brilliant models I am downloading off grabcad..........
Probably. But at least I will be using an up to date system for 6 months........ my current one has been obsolete for about 3 years.....
I may overclock it later, see how it goes. On ebay at the moment there is an i7 2600k overlclocked to over 5ghz....
Two things I did, first I kept a record of all the time I spent waiting while solidworks changed documents, opened new ones, crashing etc. Then I worked out that about 20% of my time was effectivly wasted because of this. As we have a lot on at the moment and struggling to get drawings done on time, this was a good argument to present....
Then on tuesday, a customer phoned my boss to ask about a drawing I was busy on. My boss came over to ask me for a dimension, I switched windows, my pc jammed up, eventually I had to kill SolidWorks through task manager, and then lost half the drawing, as I hadnt saved(my fault I know, but I didnt tell my boss this.....). All while the customer was on the phone.
So there you have it.
When you are wasting on average 20% of your day, this will quickly justify a new pc.
Yeah, I cant wait. should get it in a couple of weeks.
Not looking forward to getting it all set up though...
Friends??? I didnt know I had any..!
I have it..... I have it.....
One question, probably a dumb one, but on the quadro 4000 I assume I need an adapter for my second screen into one of the display ports?
I know the feeling well, glad for ya.
I don't understand why you need two screen for just renderings
