I save solidworks assembly files and part files in different folders. I try to set a search paths but it can not be saved. How can I set it?
I set it by :
Options\file locations\search paths\add then Add the folders, ----OK. but it does not work.
What is the version you're using?
Try adding the paths as an admin user.
thank you Ravi. I will try it. my solidworks version is 2011
From SW HELP FILE
Notes for Specific File Types The paths for Referenced Documents are searched only if Search file locations for external references is selected in Tools > Options > System Options > External References .
If using SW Explorer also check THESE NOTES
I am having difficulty removing the paths from options/ file locations/ search paths. I have even tried renaming the HKCU/ Software/ Solidworks folder, and they still appear. Any ideas?
Run Solidworks with elevated "run as administrator" permissions.
Looks like a bug when you launch Solidworks normally. When it pops up asking for elevated permissions, and you accept, it doesn't work.
I got with my VAR and found out that the search paths are limited by what is set up to be indexed in Windows Control Panel. There are KB articles on it.
Know that if you are using network paths, eg mapped drives, they can only be added to Solidworks Search Path if they are indexed. To index them you have to set the folder to "Always available offline", then add to control panel. BUT this causes your computer to download/sync the network to your computer, which is probably not desired.
Last thing, currently there is a bug where if you run SW normally, and try to add the network folders to search paths, they DO show up in the list. But you can't add them. If you run as admin, the non-indexed network folders do NOT show up at all.
So this is beyond confusing, and we've just decided not to use any search paths at all. Everything seems to run ok without.
