is it possible to export 3D-models containing sketches to STEP AP 214 from SWX so that sketches are visisble?
Thanks for your reply.
Do you have a sample for output 3D curves or sketch entities?
I have attempted this, but the "Sketch Entities" is greyed out. Opening the resulting step file shows no sketches at all. Only imported solid bodies and surfaces.
Any further suggestions?
Select the Wireframe option to get the sketches. But with this option sketches will be exported and no geometry.
Thank you, but the resulting step file returns an error when SW tries to open it.
The iges option does not return any points/sketch entities (or point reference geometry) when opened either, despite the options provided when saving.
I am trying to send hit points to a CMM operator.
Brian, please use these options (per Solution Id: S-065533) and check again
This seems like a bug to me. Shouldn't we be able to export some 3D geometry along with selected sketch (2D or 3D) geometry at the same time? I was just trying to do that this evening for a customer and couldn't make it work. I'm wondering if it is just me, or if this is the expected behavior.
William, this seems to be a bug per SPR #: 226061. Try the IGES method as posted above.
Hi Deepak . Thanks for the pointer to the STEP file SPR! Given that it was created on 11/5/2008, I'm guessing that it isn't a particularly high-priority.
The IGES method that you pointed out helps a lot, but for times when you don't want to have sketch geometry on top of all of the model edges, be sure to Uncheck the 'Wireframe' option as shown in the image below. The 3D Sketch geometry is still exported, but without the additional geometry. (See edges highlighted in green in the image below.)
For what it's worth, the IGES round-trip produces import warnings (Gaps between faces) that need to be healed with the Import Diagnostics tool. It's issues like this with IGES files that make me prefer STEP models. Do others here have similar experiences with IGES vs STEP?
