Why wouldn't this utilise all 100mbit/s or 1gb/s?

You may also want to talk to your IT department to see what your band width is
and like Jerry said to see what other traffic may be happening.
network is most defenetly not a problem. it's solidworks. maybe it has too much I/O requests when saving a file that network can't handle.
I'm having the same issue as you, did you ever find a solution to this problem?

You'll probably get a better answer if you ask in the Administration forum.
My guess is that the LAN is busy doing other people's files, so you are only getting about 8% of its attention.
