Files don't open from Mac network share

Question asked by Misha Young on Dec 6, 2011

Solidworks 2010 - 2012 installed on an i7 Windows 7 Dell Worstation connected to Mac OS Network using Lion Server.

Solidworks will not open files or save to an NTFS or AFP share and gives the message: "An error was encountered while trying to open your file. Contact Technical Support for a possible solution." Customer support will not touch the issue because of the Mac server.

I believe it has something to do with a lack of Samba 2 support. An older version of office had the same issue and upgrading to a newer version which supports Samba 2 solved the problem. It could also be a permissions or temporary file problem. Either way, it has become a chore to copy files to the desktop before they can be opened.

Has anyone ecountered this same issue or discoved a workaround?
