Using wrap to make slot onto cylinder

I am currently designing a quick release mechanism for one of my classes in college. My idea was to basically have a hollow tube and a cylindar, where the hollow tube would have cut out slots that pegs protruding from the cylindar could slide into.  I drew the slots onto the hollow tube and used the wrap command so they would follow the contour of the tube. The problem arises when I go to deboss them and I notice the slots getting smaller as they go through the surface the hollow tube. I have attached my file so you can look. I guess my question is how can I have wrap maintain a constant size as it cuts instead of shrinking while it cuts through?
