How can I delete old discussions that are no longer relevant?
I do not have that opption in the right hand column as suggested in some posts reviewed after search.

I assume you are referring to threads started by yourself.
I don't believe you can delete an entire thread, only your own posts. At least that's how it used to be.
Deleting threads may not be a good idea. While the threads may no longer be relevant to you, they may still hold needed information for others.
I just deleted an old thread of mine (which no-one had responded to ) with no problem.
