Dear Solidworks Forum Admins
Can you make a badge system of some sort, or even link the forum to our solidworks certifications to use as badges. I think this would be helpful to see who is the master at answering questions, and who's answers may be correct. Is there a way to do this currently or post images underneath our current points system?
It would just be more helpful. Kind of like Stackoverflow.com it gives you reputation in the community, and tells you if someone knows what they are talking about or just spewing information.
and some of us do both and a rant here and there, but all helps figure out the issues or problems by looking at it from different poionts view.
Yeah mainly just suggestions to make this an easier place to use for everyone. It will make people more trusted over others, and a good way to sort out the users from abusers.

I am a proud SW abuser from way back .... thats how I've learned so many tricks and working for the VAR in AZ for 3 yrs.
What part of CHEADER are you from? Born and raised in Cedarburg, home of Mercury Marine until 1982.
been out here in AZ since 86' on an off as a model maker prototype machinist using SW, Surfcam and a slew of other softwares to help out ID and engineer types.
so we do need some BADGERS, badges maybe not, but BADGERS hell yeah

I was born in Hurley Wisconsin (which in the 30's & 40's was prostitution capital in Wisconsin for the loggers and politicians), but living in the Janesville area currently.
Currently programming systems for engineering companies to not have to engineer common catalog items.
Russ know it well Mom was born and raised in Woodruff off of 47 and 51 acroos from Snake lake, family from Wausau to Boulder Junction, Sayner, Eagle River. Spent most my summers on Brandy Lake at Wallaces Cabins.

Badge or no badge, I have said things or made suggestions here that may have been ok, while there were times where I had egg running off my face and that comes to light here in a hurry. Those types of things are bound to happen either way, because we have the entire software at our finger tips and think that since we know what we know than we should be able to know about other things, too.
Even though some of us may be using the software on a daily basis doesn't make us an expert in all fields. If the badges were reflected by the certifications then it would make a designation that at least you know the basics of that area. When you do that you should also be forced to re-take the course on a yearly basis and then having your certification tied to the badge would make sense, otherwise, say I stop using the software for 5 years and then come back to post on the forum and having no idea what transpired in the releases.
So whatever way it's done the forum is a great place for people to get help and if I respond to a post with incorrect information I want to be called out. We all know SolidWorks is a software program that can be used in many different ways, so what's works for you may not work for me, just because I'm not comfortable doing it that way.
Trusted guy's will stay on with a willingness to learn and the abusers are always going to come and go, so the numbering system that is in place kind of gives you a little knowledge who is who.
Take a look there are guys with a higher numbers that haven't posted in a long time, so are they still here or not??

yeah I agree. It would be nice to have a badge system though and allow you to export your profile logo to resumes etc. Just a little suggestion for maybe future reference. Lenny I dig the Packers being from Wisco and all.

I re-read my post and maybe I did sound like I didn't agree with your comments. A "New" badge system would be great and I think a lot could be done on the SW profile page, kind of like the linkedin.com

I will add to it in saying that there are some on this forum that are not CSWP or any type of similar
certificate that offer great feedback. I have also worked with engineers that did not have a degree
or any piece of paper that were the smartest guys you ever wanted to meet. Personally speaking
if badges make the user or person then it might be shallow thinking. Experience matters and there
are some brilliant users on this forum. I think one can tell who is legit and who is not. Does that mean
the current system couldn't use some tweaking? No, but right now I can't think of a different one.
Ok, I'll stand up and jump to the other side of the river just for the discussion's sake.
I haven't had time to take any more certification tests - getting home 10-11 pm is about all the fun I can stand. I don't want to jump up and down and wave a flag. I don't want to spend more time putting together more "stuff" on a web site. I don't want a cell phone. (Ok, I just threw that one in - somewhat irrelevant, but true.)
All I want to to do is learn and help others when I can. It doesn't take long for a person to sort out the people that want to help and have some good ideas. It also doesn't take much time at all to spot the person that has posted twice and the second time is only a " Piss off SW!" Is that reallly helpful to anyone? Would you really need to see their credentials to accurately asses that one?
Will every "trusted" "credentialed" answer be correct? Hardly, as sometimes it's not easy to narrow in on the problem. But the combination of all the answers gives people ideas and direction and that's sometimes what ultimately solves the problem rather than the "correct" answer being posted.
So all that being said, it wouldn't bother me, but I would hope that people would not make decisions based on badges rather than reading and evaluating content. And if that's the case, then what's the point?

Yeah I actually agree I guess what you post and how many correct answers you have really does say it all. You can surely tell who knows there stuff and who doesn't just by going into any discussion. I am glad this debate is in full swing.
I agree with you, Wayne. I think we can already get a pretty good idea how helpful / knowlegeable someone is just by looking back at their recent posts.

The certifications a person has is irrelevant (IMO). The number of times a person has given the correct answer is far more important. Even better would be a ratio of correct answers to number of posts. That might even help cut down the quantity of the frivolous not so helpful posts.
I would pay far more attention to an answer from a person who posts very rarely but was "batting 1000", than an answer from a person who has posted 4900 times but had a score of only 93.

I agree on that someone could update there status 10x a day and get 10 points for doing absolutely nothing to contribute to the forums.
