    Stress Linearization

    Richard Belcher

      Hi all,

I have a pressure vessel which i want to perform FEA on. Specifically its for the case of determining the maximum permissible nozzle loads for a large nozzle that falls outside of WRC 537 scope.

I wish to use solid elements to model this as is recommended. But it seems i cant find any option to linearize the stresses at the nozzle to shell junction. I need to separate out the primary stresses from the secondary stresses as per ASME VIII Div2. We have Solidworks premium and not simulation professional if this is what is required?

Any other advice on how you have done similar with solidworks would be greatly appreciated .

          Hi Richard:
The function is available when you create a Pressure Vessel study (in Simulation Professional). Then, after generating a stress plot, you have to create a section plot (section clipping). Next, when you right-click on the plot icon itself, there is a menu option labeled "Linearize..." from which you can pick points across the section. Hope that helps. - Tony
