BOM counts wrong with feature driven pattern

I tried using a Feature Driven Pattern to place bolts in a plate.  I had created an extruded hole in the plate, then a linear pattern for the other 3, and used that linear pattern to place the bolts so that if the hole spacing changed then the bolts would move with it.  I then inserted that sub-assembly into an assembly, but when I got to the drawing the counts were wrong for the bolts in the BOM.  I deleted the pattern and did a regular linear pattern and the counts were right.  Has anyone else had problems with this or is this one of those special things SolidWorks does just for me?
