You can use a cut feature to simulate the section view.
how about when it's an assembly? Would the easiest way be to cut each part separately and rebuild the assembly?
Nope, You can do an assembly level cut.. Go to Insert--Assembly feature--Cut--Extrude. It will leave cut away the section view and leave all of the individual parts alone.

Even easier, just use the section view and render that...
what i do is save the assembly as a part then do the section cuts. Then i would save the bodies as separate part. then import the bodies back into the assembly and mating the origins. The benefit of this is that it leaves the main assembly intact and also allows you to change the colour of the cutaway faces like you see on real cutways. its also handy to put the cutaway parts into an assembly folder so that you can hide/show the cutaway.
I do it through configurations, but i forgot about saving it as a part, that might be alot easier than tracking extra configurations. 
Also, just in case, task scheduler with renderings is your best friend. its not uncommon for many of my renders to take up to two hours, so I just set them to start around 9PM, and they are usually done by the moring when I come back in.
