We have a sheet metal box and cover. How to make the corner minium gap between box and cover and looks nicely? Please give me some suggestions. The corner has flanges and jogs.
I would also jog the chassis in the back, that way the cover would be flush all around. As you can see I removed the top flange where the cover jog comes under the chassis. The other side flanges disappeared as a result, that wasn't my intention.
You could also tighten up the space between the chassis and the cover at the long jog. There was a notch in the cover jog to clear the support, that notch was to close to the jog itself to be easily made, perhaps you can notch the support some. We have a rule that the flat near a bend must be 1.5 times the material thickness to the tangent point of the radius. I would go a little larger than that because it's a jog.
It would be tough to do but you might be better off putting the front cover jog on the chassis instead. That woudl eliminate the notch in the cover.
Just moving some things slightly will go a long way to closing up the gaps that are left.
Since you sent the assembly without the parts I couldn't open it. But anyway give this suggestion some consideration:
(based on these assumptions, yellow is the cover, gray is the chassis)
Bring the jog all the way to the inside surface (plus a little for tolerancing) that will leave a rectangle punch width for a relief at the corner, the side now brought to the tangent point of the bottom of the jog. The side flange of the cover will overlap the jog to the tangent point slightly.
Remove enough of the small return to allow the jog of the cover to meet the chassis so the gaps could be smaller.
I could modify the parts to show you better if you upload them. Perhaps you'll understand my suggestion though.
Have you tried the miter flange option command?
Good morning L.j,
Try what Bernie mentioned or;
You can always un-fold and add more material in the flat and then fold the part back up again,
Or - Edit the Jog sketch and extend the bend area.
Thanks Bernie and all of you. they are good points.I will try it. At the same time the files have been attched.
The SW 2011 files are here. Thanks
I'll have a look at them first thing in the morning.
Here is the modified corner in the assembly. I had a little difficulty in a few places but that is just because we model differently. I hope this helps!
Very appreciate Bernie,it looks much better than I did. Alternative option could you give me suggestions to completely remodel the area for the case and cover. The main idea is the top view less gap and looks better. With those jogs it is hard to do.
