Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make appearances less-than-perfect (rusty, scratched, dented, etc)? Keep in mind I don't have access to modo, Keyshot, Photoshop or any other third-party programs. Just SolidWorks and PV360.
Try this link out from GrabCAD. David Thomas was kind enough to share some of his custom materials which contain two rust patterns. They work in PhotoView 360.
This is what I'm going for...
Those look great, but I can't seem to apply them. they show up in SW when I map the folder, but nothing changes when I drop them into my part. Any ideas?
I havent myself downloaded them so I'm not sure, but leave a comment and David should be able to point you in the right direction.
Just downloaded them there and they work just fine. Some of the names needed updating, but other than that it was a simple to use. Just "Add File Locatiom" in the appearance tab and direct to where you have the files saved.
It doesn't work for me if I try to add the actual .p2m appearances, but it works if I add the images from his image folder. Thanks though.
For the rust I think finding a tilable "rust" image and using that would be the easiest. For the dents you could use surface finish. Ideally you'd make an apearance from your tilable rust image and then use a gray scale copy of the same image as bump on the surface finish tab to give the apperance a perception of depth.
