1 when putting data in the cut list properties is there any way to get that data to transfer when i extract to new part?
2 when i change the name of a weldment in the cutlist is there a way to link that name thru all of my processes, ie from full model to detailing individual parts to assemblys and sub assemblies.
thanks for the welcome, we have current templates set up for all the information that we pull but we end up having to put the info in 2 or 3 times over the course of each part, really just looking to save keystrokes and time

We use weldments and cutlists alot. What exactly do you mean when you say you are extracting it to a new part? Are you inserting an existing weldment part into another weldment and adding more features to it? If this is what you are doing than when you insert the existing weldment into a new weldment file and update the cut list all of the original information should come with it.
For your second question, are you referring to changing the name of a Sub-Weldment within the cutlist and then carrying that Sub-Weldment through various stages of production to a final product? You can save that sub-weldment as an external part file with its own cut list and then when you insert it into a new file the cut list will come through.
I am not sure if I am describing what you are referring to or not. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am still using SW2010 so I am not too sure what enhancements have been made in SW2011 or 12 but cut lists have always been a little rigid.

what im talking about is going into the cutlist and you have all your main meldments and you can drop down each one to see the actual part or mirrors of the part, when you right click an option is to (insert into new part). and it will isolate the part i made but not carry over any of the properties i added to it in the cutlist

Such as description, length, weight, etc. I just did that and it worked fine for me so that is strange. Not to ask a stupid question but are you making the new part file that is created a weldment? I am not using 2011 so unfortunately I cannot say for certain if it works or not.

I just tried it in 2011 SP 4.
When inserting single bodies into a new part, I got the proper results from a cutlist (or a BOM with detailed cutlist checked). When I tried inserting a subweldment with multiple bodies into a new part, it doesn't work right. (Parts of the cutlist return an unevaluted SW string)
I have tried to get that second part to work in 2010 as well and didn't succeed. Ryan, if you're getting proper behaviour from it in 2010, it'd be interesting to see what steps you use.

You are correct, I apologize. I admittedly just did a quick check with either a single body or multi-bodies that were the same. I had not checked this functionality thoroughly since 2009 because it was completely useless in that release. Since then we have decided to just go ahead and create new models or do Save As's whenever possible. The only time we use a subweldment is when we are taking a weldment that is stand alone and has a drawing and then either adding pieces to it or making modifications such as machining to it. That way it only has to show up in the cut list as a single item instead of all the individual pieces that make it up. I find it frustrating that SW has these tools available but you cannot really use them since the cutlist is not correct.
