I am in need to export an assembly into a step file but my mates are gone when i re-open the step file. What am i doing wrong? How am I suppose to send the assembly file to a customer?
Take a look at this thread. It has a macro that reestablishes the mates.
But understand that step files are nothing more the dumb solids.
Save as part file, e-drawing or 3dpdf and send if they just need to view it.
You are doing nothing wrong. Mates are not exported when translating data into the neutral formats such as step. That is how the translators work.
What is the customer wanting to do with the assy?
What software does the customer have?
Sorry they would like to place it in an assembly.
Using what software?
If they only need the exterior shape as an interface, try saving the assy as a part using the Exterior Faces option, then resave that as a SAT or STEP file.
