I know nothing about SolidWorks. Which is the better book, SolidWorks 2010 Bible by Matt Lombard or SolidWorks 2010 Tutorial with Multimedia CD by David C. Planchard?
They're very different books. The SW Bible books are reference material. They're really meant for people with some experience who want a lot more depth. My books are written for practicing professionals.
The Planchard tutorials teach more basic stuff, with step-by-step tutorials. They are written primarily for college students.
the SW tutoial...I have used this in my course as a starting point for beginners....then use matt's
I have the Parts Bible & Assemlies Bible by Matt. Good books except, two things, font is small and I could not view the videos on the DVD on windows media player, QuickTime or Nero. I could only hear them. If Matt is reading this, I would sure like o know how to view the videos on XP Pro.
The have good stuff in there for the more experienced SW user.
Perhaps you can help this guy (and Ben) out.
Ben please tell me what is the best edition of the Surface Bible by Matt Lombard, 2011, 2010, 2009 or 2008? Thank you so much.

Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks everyone and thank you, Matt, for your honesty.
Good morning Jenny,
I purchased the 2011 Assembly Bible and I also have the Solid Professor (not a book), both are good, however I do want to thank Matt for his time and the direct approach when it comes to explaining SolidWorks.
Sometimes we are faced with a 6 of one and a half a dozen of the other and Matt explains the Pro's & Con's.
I feel the new Features & ways of doing things are unique and do make it easier and quicker, however sometimes I still go back to the original way of doing things and that is the perspective I get from Matt. It may be good to do it that way, but this way is more positive approach, such as in context design etc...
I found this comprehensive SOLIDWORKS book, and wanted to share it with you all. SolidWorks 2011 Book Beginning to Advanced SolidWorks 2011 Modeling, Drafting and Assemblies from Machined Parts to Bl objects has been written by engineers for engineers. Visit http://SolidWorksBook.com/
I got the solidworks 2011 book and love it. They have placed an overwhelming emphasis in this book on exercises. This book teaches users how to be fluent with the tools in solidworks. I highly recommend this solidworks 2011 book.
Matt Lombard hand's down covers more. The other one are super basic and kind of pricey for what you get.
Thanks, Russell. I did buy the SolidWorks 2010 Tutorial book (since we are using 2010 at work) and it is great for beginners. It is divided in half and one half study material for the SolidWorks Certification Exam (which I am going to take). I really needed the beginner's book and I agree that Matt's has more, but it would have been too advanced for me at this time. A bonus - it was only $38 online ($72 in store).
