What would the basic minimum requirements be for Solidworks 2011 version?
I meet all the minimum requirements, except my video card is a NVIDIA 8500GT.
Will this work?
The last company I worked for used that exact video card in 2 Solidworks workstations with no real issues.
Solidworks 2009 / 2010 / 2011 all ran ok.
I'll admit it wasn't the fastest card or is suitable for large complex assemblies but for a low end system it worked.
Yes it will work.
Thank you very much!
Welcome to the forum.
I would compare what you got to what is posted on the Solidworks website
for system requirements and go from there. But the true test is to just load
it and run it. Obviously alot depends on the size and complexity of your models
We did look at the system requirements, and I agree that it would be easy to just install it.
But, I don't want to buy the program if I can't use it on my computer without spending money on an expensive video card.
The student license only lasts so long. Know what I mean?
I was just hoping someone may have Solidworks running with a similar video card in it, or at least tried to.
I understand. Makes sense.
From what I have read I think the student version is good for at least
a short period of time to give you some sort of idea. And remember what I said before,
even if someone on this forum says it worked great and they didn't have any issues, still
does not prove if it will work for you. Their files might be larger or smaller, more or less complex
then what you are using/doing. Computers are funny animals and there are
a lot if variables that make them tick. I have witnessed two exactly the same computers
responding quite differently given the same files to work with.
Hope this makes sense to you. Best of luck.
Hey, what a coincidence! Thanks to you!
If your main concerns are not Real View or complex assemblies, the CPU and RAM are probably more important. Untill I get a chance to sort out what it's problems are, I've been running with my video card completely disabled (in the Device Manager) and I'm surprised just what the year old (no Sandybridge) machine will do without it. Even without looking up the specs on your card, if you are doing typical student level work you'll be just fine.
Appreciate the input. The only concern was the video card so I will give it a try.
