I am designing a sheet metal cover that has a constant curve from left to right but around all four edges I need to have a hem bend.
Is this possible in SW 2011?
I have attached a screen image of the cover without any hems.
NO, you'll have to use the sweep feature.
I would suggest to model the part as flat, add the hem and then use flex to curve/bend the part.
Good afternoon Dale,
You can model it, but not as sheet metal part.
I am not sure if we will be able to do that in 2012 with the new Sweep Bend Feature!
this is what i had done before to solve this problem
Thanks for the responses. I hemmed the panel and used the sweep feature. Very cool, but you can't generate a flat pattern or unfold.
I don't think the hem will be uniform while actual manufacturing the part. But in case you fell it would be good to have this option, raise an Enhancement Request.
Download SW2012-SP0 and use the new Swept Flange function
For pre-SW2012 versions;
Create the non-curved form as a sheet metal part and then use the Flex function to create the curve. A configuration will have to be used to suppress the Flex feature before using the Flatten tool.
