Multiple configurations in master assemblies

Hello there,

I'm just asking whether it is possible to have a number of sub assembly with a number of configurations that all be altered from a master assembly. Example, two different length chassis (with a extra crossmember in the longer one), another sub assembly to have a choice of axles and another sub assembly with different suspension systems. Some of the configurations would not be able to be used with certain configurations. Would it be possible to have it so that the master assembly can select alter these configurations some something like the configuration publisher. Sorry if that is not every clear but I will be happy to try and explain this better if needed.

Read any and all of Mauricio's post. They do this kind of top down design all the time.

They do big commercial grade cooling systems with a top down approach like what you wish to do.

George,

Welcome to the forum.

First, yes, you can have different sub assemblies called out in a master assembly.

Just set them up in a design table.

Once your views are setup in the drawing all you have to do is RC on the view

and select properties then choose the configuration you want represented.

Now, it sounds like you want this some what automated. Short of creating a macro

I am not aware of a way to do that.

You don't need a macro to do this... just a really nice design table with all your possible selection combinations limited as required. Not easy, but it is possible

Thanks for getting back to me. Have you got any hints on how to go about linking these configurations together in a design table that would mean that the master assembly you be altered to suit the required configurations.

Thanks for that. I'm assuming that from this table it would be possible suppress and resolve parts so that they could be apart a master assembly. Would it be please to link assemblies together in a design table to change a master assembly (to reduce the number of parts that need to be suppressed in the master assembly can be reduced, and would it be also possible to make the master assembly a read only file so that the modifications to the design table can be saved and a new assembly (not necessarily linked to the design table) and for a report to be produced so that our salesman has a print out of the modifications as part of a sales order?

Oh and sorry for all of the questions, feel as if I'm asking some simple questions

Really, almost anything is possible if you can keep it all straight in your head and build the proper Excel sheet to match. A more specific example of exactly what you are trying to do might help point you in the right direction(s)... I guess I am just unable to follow exactly what you are looking for with this super DT.

well, using the link I provided (and you can search for "excel dependent list" and find other examples) you are more than welcome to create one of your very own

I don't have these requirements in any DT so I don't have an example, but the technique does exist. Did I mention that Excel is extremely powerful?
