can anyone help me find out how to edit an animation to introduce motion to a second sub assy sharing the same time line as it's "mirror image" part?']

O.k., if I'm understanding you correctly. It sounds like you want to have another part of your assembly to move in conjunction with another part, at the same time; thus sharing the same time line. (?)
One thing you may need to do, depending upon how you assembled your part. You may need to delete some of your mating features as your part may never move. You can delete your mating features and still hold the possiton of the assembled part. Then you have to highlight that part and give it the specific movement you want in your animation. Each assembly requiries it's own movement within the time line you give it. You'll just have to try and synchronize everything by tweaking movements until it looks the way you would want it to flow. It takes some playing and getting used to. You can pretty much edit the animation any time you want.
