Hi there, I'm confused with how SW handles file references for saving out a backup for a project, specifically with a master model with a save body feature, and in copying a project backup of the assembly file / component files using SAVE AS COPY. I'm familiar with most of the referencing that SW does, except with the save bodies feature in this case.
My working files include:
1 Master Model part file that splits out two bodies using the SAVE BODIES feature,
2 part files derived from the SAVE bodies feature
1 Assembly file including the 2 part file components, plus a few other part files.
From the assembly file, I used the SAVE AS COPY command to create a backup folder / files for the project.
Everything from the assembly is saved out into new backup copies, just what I want. However, the Master Model file doesn't get included in that process since it doesn't actually appear in the assembly. But the newly created copies of the derived part files are linked back to the original Master Model. I also want a whole new Master Model copy as well that has the references the new derived parts, but I'm not sure how/ where I should be establishing or resetting those references.
Editing the stock feature (in context) in the part files loads up the old, original file as the source.
Editing the save body feature brings up the file name and check-box window, but I'm a bit confused with this and what it is actually doing and what the messages mean. (i.e. new part, existing part, etc.)
The message says something like: "the document isn't related to the feature being edited. Please attach body to another document. Or edit the stock feature in the derived part, and reassociate the body with this feature. "
Does this mean that I can, in a clunky manual way, copy the MM part file, and then edit the save bodies feature in each file to reestablish the proper links without overwriting anything if I'm careful?
I'm assuming the "SAVE AS COPY" is an alternative (better or worse?) to using the pack and go method.
Thanks for any help on this,
Travis
