So I am interested in designing stairs by inputting values in an excel file and then having those values be used in modeling the stairs. Such as the rise of the stair and so on. I'm not really sure where to even start for something like this.

I can't seem to put my hands on it but I know I have seen a thread that
talks about Excel spread sheet driven parts. If you try and do a search maybe you will find it.

This may be a crash course, however I hope you can at least get an idea where and what etc...
1. Draw your part (Stair Runner)
2. Label the dimensions that will be changing in your model, such as ht, length, thickness etc...
3. Extrude the part
4. Go to Insert, Tables, Design Table
5. Select Auto Create
6. Pick the dimensions that you want to be driven by the design table
7. When the Excel spreadsheet pops up just add information below the line that is already there.
8. Column A is designated for the configuration names
9. You can also populated the Design Table with other Custom Property information and in the first row after the generated information you can type $PRP@"Size" or what ever other custom property that you would like to be linked with this part.

What do you mean "label the dimensions"? the rest seems to be understandable

Sorry, I should have said "Re-Name" the dimension - The only reason to do this is so they are labeled when you Auto-Create the design table. Then you know which value to change etc...

I forgot point out the dimension colors in the Stair Runner Pic.
Pink Dimensions are linked to the design table
Gray Dimensions are Driven Dimensions or REF Dimensions
Black Dimensions are Drive Dimensions and not linked to the design table

I looked into doing this, I will try post a simple example. It would work on simple stairs, but when it gets a bit more complicated......
No two stairs I do ever seem to be the same....

If you look under the configurations tab you will see a few different options. Also, if you edit the table you have here you can add any size you want.
Greg, I try to download the file to taka look at it, but it gives an error on downloading, can you load it again?
