Configurator anyone?

Does anyone have any experience with Configurators?

We currently have a top level assembly (TLA) that currently has 8 different flavors or configurations. Each configuration is just a tweak of one or more subassemblies. This initial 8 flavors could easily morph into 16, 32, or more different flavors as we start adding more complexity. To top if off, the TLA probably has on the order of 10K parts in it if nothing gets simplified.

What is the best way to handle this situation? A design table? Drive Works? Genie in a lamp?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

The only drawback with the configuration is that they keep on adding to file size, so if possible go a with multiple files.

I believe you can achieve what you need using a combination of DT's, Reference Geometry Sketches, and Equations, no need for another application, neither the Genie in the lamp.

Please understant that those are just simple examples posted to ilustrate the method, in the real world we use it to do very large assemblies (average assembly directory size over 900Mb).

Use "dynamic configurations" as show on the fan assembly posted there, when possible in stead of multiple configurations (each static configuration will "load" the system and at the end will degrade the performance to a point that you will not be able to work.
