Is there a way to implement an automated rev system for Acad files?
What I mean is: SW will automatically fill in the rev block and title block with the current rev. What does it take for Acad to do the same? I am not up on all the latest Acad methods and tools. Does acad have the ability to put document properties in as part of the text?
I know you could write routines for Acad that would do this. I did that 20 years ago before SW. Is that something that others are using now?
There is a lot that can be done by programming with API, but I do not know enough about it. I think Wayne is correct in the belief that it is not directly possible.

i would say no not possible.
for sure no on the rev block, this is a sw feature.
The case in point is just being set up. Check-in from file is probably how it would be done. If it worked one way and not another, it would be worth considering a workflow definition.
I don't see quickly how to access the custom properties defined in inside Acad. This would make it harder to automate. Even if it is just somewhat automated; for example: just automating the rev in the title block would be an easy variable location. IF it is linked to the PDM custom property or Exif data.
Automating the rev block in Acad is probably not worth complexity. It would be better to just go with the starship enterprise.
I know it is possible, with a simple routine in Acad. But for the case at hand it is probably not worth the trouble.

I agree with you. It could be done using the ACAD API and SolidWorks Workgroup PDM API,
I just have a feeling that Workgroup PDM will be replaced in the future by an Enterprise PDM Lite.
I do not think you can do it in Workgroup PDM. If you had Enterprise PDM, you can map block attributes to the Revision variable in EPDM.
