I am trying to move dimension to a detail view. Help says hold shift key & drag to destination view, doesn't work.
Try with ctrl button pressed. It'll rather create a copy of the dimension in detail view and you can delete from the parent view.
Already tried, no luck.
Try moving/copying it to another view and from that move to the detail view.
If this is a dimension that was created in the model and inserted through
insert model items, then it wont move unless the view you are trying to moce it to
is in the same orientation as it was created in the model.
What version of SolidWorks? There were issues with the detail view not showing both entities that were dimensioned to. The workaround was to make the detail circle large enough to see both. Once the dimension was moved, you could resize the detail circle back to what you want.
SW Professional x64 2011 SP4.0, Workaround doesn't work.
I discovered that you can't move dimensions To / From / Between section views.
Any updates to this problem? I need to move design annotations to a detail view and can't get it to work.
I've been having trouble with this too for a while. I have SW 2012 SP5.0 and still the same problem. Look at Wayne Matus' post--that's usually about the best I can get also. "make the detail circle large enough to see both. Once the dimension was moved, you could resize the detail circle back to what you want."
Go to that main view; Expand the boundary box; I mean drag the detail view box for the whole part and you can see the complete part in ur detail view. Give dimensions now and then reduce the detail view back. This can be one of the ways to achieve this,
I know this is an old post but - I've once again ran into a similar problem, and because my model is so large and I made the model with needing to move dimensions between views in mind I'm really trying to not settle for a work around like I normally do.
What I've found is that I cannot move dimensions between views if the views are of different configurations.
If anyone happens to know of a setting or way to change this please let me know.
I've tried having display states linked and not linked and that doesn't change anything.
What I found even more surprising then not being able to move dimensions from one view to another of a different configuration is that the eliminate duplicate dimensions doesn't work between configurations either. Further if I have a View in configuration A, insert my dimensions from the model, then delete all the dimensions I want to the other View in configuration B - when I insert my dimensions from the model into View in configuration B it imports all the dimensions once again..
Update - the work around for my scenario is to make both views the same configuration, move the dimensions to the correct view, then change the configuration back - which does work. Just a little frustrating there always has to be some weird workaround.
