Mating to sketch or part formed from distinct sketch entities

I have a continuous sketch formed from distinct elements that are always tangential at their points of convergence.  I wish to use this sketch in an assembly to mate parts to the line, allowing me to travel around the perimeter of the sketch.  However, the mate always references a single line entity rather than the sketch profile and hence does not follow the desired path when a convergence point is reached.

Creating a part and mating to the surface of this part would be an acceptable solution, but as with the sketch the mate only seems to work with discrete portions of the surface - not continuous travel around the entire perimeter.

Attached is one sketch/part with which I have attempted to mate.

Is there any workaround to this problem?

Thanks.
