Bad Data while try to connect to vault

    Dan Lolea 5

      Hi all,

I've encountered the following issue while trying to connect to the vault server "Bad data".

Weird thing is that this is happening only on two from 5 machines.

PDM, Database and Archive servers are installed on a separate machine. The 5 machinesc are in the same network, but on two of them the above error comes up when try to connect to the vault (connecting to the server works without problems).

The following data is showing in the log:

      "Description:

Cryptographic failure. (Windows Sockets error #-2146893819)

      Date: 2011-08-24 15:21:28

      Module: ConisioAdmin.exe

      Function: CFVLogin::SimpleConnectEx<-LoginConnection::mvRecvLoginStruct<-LoginConnection::mvRecvEncrypted<-CryptSocket::mvRead

      Error code: 0x80090005

      Error code general description:

      Bad Data."

Anyone knows how to fix this?

      Thanks in advance,

      Dan

          Hi Dan,

As copied directly from the Knowledge Base:

          Solution Id:

          S-057208

          Product:

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM 2012 CAD Editor

          Updated:

          1/13/2012 8:52:27 AM

          Area:

          PDMWorks Enterprise

          Sub-Area:

          Administration

          Question:

What can cause a cryptographic failure error when trying to logon to a vault view or the administration in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM?

          Answer:

A possible cause of the cryptographic error can be due to the Enterprise PDM client being of a higher or older version than the archive server server. The following error should be displayed in the client log. The solution is either to downgrade the client or upgrade the server so both are at the same version and service pack.

Note that if you have just upgraded a client to correct version, you may have to restart the workstation before the login works if you are seeing this issue as it may have some older version DLLs still loaded in memory.

The client log would show this error:
Description: Cryptographic failure. (Windows® Sockets error #-2146893819)
          Module: ConisioAdmin.exe
          Function: CFVLogin::SimpleConnectEx<-LoginConnection::mvRecvLoginStruct<-LoginConnection::mvRecvEncrypted<-CryptSocket::mvRead
          Error code: 0x80090005
          Error code general description:
          Bad Data."

I had this same error message after migrating pdm to a new server and the problem we had was in HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Solidworks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ArchiveServer\Vaults\VaultName you should find a string named "Server" and its value should be servername\sqlinstance so if your server name is PDMServer and your sql instance is named PDMSQL then your value would be PDMServer\PDMSQL.

Hope this helps someone because there is very little help for this error online.
