Linear Dynamic Analysis

I am attempting to perform a linear dynamic analysis on a fairly large vibration fixture used to vibrate an assembly that weighs 96 lbs. It is basically an aluminum weldment with a mounting plate that mounts to the shaker head (all vibration is in the "Z-axis"). Is it preferable to reduce the fixture to a shell model in order to get an accurate frequency analysis? I have had problems with tet elements creating a model that is too stiff to get accurate frequency information.
