How do I classify parts that I created/downloaded as hardware or "fasteners" (that didn't come from the toolbox) so I quickly/easily exclude them from section views in drawings as opposed to doing selecting it manually?
Welcome to the forum.
The icons will be different.
The toolbox icon looks like this
where as a part icon looks like this
Thanks Scott...perhaps I should've worded my question better. I know how to differentiate between the two...I was wondering how (or I guess if it's even possible) to classify a part as hardware..in other words turn a file into a ?
Is there a property somewhere that I can select?
Basically it is nothing more then making smart fasteners out of them.
See this link from the help page.
There is a utility for removing the Toolbox part flag that people normally use to remove Toolbox association from their parts. However, it can be used in the opposite way to do what you are asking. Navigate to C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities (or whatever the pathway is on your system) and run "sldsetdocprop.exe". It does work on changing the icon but I am not sure it will behave nicely when you try to exclude it in section views. But it's worth a try.
