Is there a way to change a feature in one configuration without changing it in the other? Example: the part is a block 3" wide, 6" long, 1/2" high with a round hole in the center. I then add a configuration and change the round hole to a square hole. But the round hole also changes to a squre hole in the original configuration. Using SW ver 9 sp0.

Paul,
I would look into creating a design table for this. That way you can control the suppression
and resolving of these features from there with relative ease for each config. You can also
control custom property and dimension values with ease too.

You need to check the suppress features box. When you add a new configuration make sure that box is checked, otherwise any changes/additional features will show in all configurations.
You can go back to the feature tree and suppress/unsuppress the features you don't want.

Thanks for all the replys. I made a mistake in my example. I tried to make it simple but it was the wrong example. It's not the features I need to change, I need to change the sketch. The actual part I am making is a cylindrical part 2" long and .88" dia. In one configuration both ends are flat. In the other configuration one end has a spherical radius of 50". I sketch the cylinder and rad on the one end then revolve the sketch to produce the part with the spherical rad. When I create another configuration I edit the sketch by deleting the "arc" and replacing it with a straight line. I have tried "Supress Features" but both configs end up with square ends. I am trying to use configurations to produce process drawings where the model changes with each machining process. So the sketch changes with each process.

Don't delete, just suppress and you should be ok,
You should be able to have one config square the other round and another hex shaped all by adding configurations,

You might try using the same sketch to create them both with the flat ends, then adding the radius as a seperate feature on that configuration.

I would still go back to what I said earlier. create these as 2 seperate features
and use the DT to suppress/unsupress them.
So it appears I cannot just modify geometry between configs. I have to complete the features and then supress or unsurpress them to get the different configs. Is that correct? Or can I surpress geometry like lines and arcs. If so, how?

You can supress/unspress features but not geometry,

You can create another feature with Square hole, then u can configure the features.
