Recently upgraded from 2007 to 2011 however neither the RX or the performance tool will start when the icons are 'clicked'
Check with task manager open to see if it starts then stops/disappears, let the forum know.
Unfortunately not, the 'timer' icon appears for about half a second and then nothing...... Task manager shows nothing either.
Any one else in your department seeing this behavior?
No i'm the only one here, bit of a lonely draughtsman. sw2011 is only installed on my machine?
Can you log onto your system with someone elses login and try again?
Did you perform a clean uninstall and re-install of SW, or just update the SW2007 install?
Was the A/V disabled?
Thanks for the replies i only have one log on, it is a networked machine but theres only me as the user......
kelvin, solidworks has been installed twice both times without luck on the RX front. we do have a trend micro agent running which i didnt disable on either occasion.....?
Edit.....it was a complete new install on both occasions i chose not to upgrade sw2007 because i was having issues with it.
Is it possible that you have some anti-virus software running in the back ground that is
interfereing with this?
Per Brian's suggestion, just create a new user profile with admin permissions, and try the Rx from that profile. If it works then you know the problem lies within your user profile.
Which Windows version are you using?
Maybe try running a repair of SW with the A/V disabled.
creating a new profile is a route id rather not go down as i'd have to get our it admin guys on a call out, I could ask to see if they have any idea why the profile would interfere with sw.
I'll have a try at yout last point a repair with the av disabled.
Is there someone else in your building that is able to log on to your workstation, even if they dont know SW, they could log on, and you could test the RX tool under their login...
Hold on! You can install SW, but you can't create a user profile???
Do you not have full (local) admin permissions? If not, that may be the problem.
Good point sir!
looking under user accounts in the control panel, i have three accounts all of them have 'administrator' next to them including the one i allways log on with....
What is the purpose of having three accounts? or three logins?
Does logging in as one of the other accounts bring any different results?
How annoying, just tried logging in, in all three accounts all of them couldnt get RX to work, what i did notice is that my typical login joins a network or domain or whatever your suposed to call and not the computer itself like the other two do. (one is administrator for the it support guys, the other is my old profile)
I tried with the tsk mngr running but again no such luck, however when i clicked the icon once there was a flicker of a program in tsk manager but it had the 'unrecognised' symbol against it and it was gone so fast i couldnt read what it was called sys....something or other.
i also would like to disable the anti virus but its wants a password for that and thats with the it support guys somewhere....i'm not sure what the trend micro program is called in the task manager to try and kill that.
Unless some Windows or SW guru can suggest what processes could prevent the Rx from running, it sounds like you will have to get your IT guy in to do some digging.
Have you tried running SW and the Rx after rebooting into Safe Mode?
Have you spoken with a techie from your VAR about this problem?
There are usually at least 3 accounts (Admin, User and Guest) on every Windows based PC.
No I know there is.
It just sounded like he had 3 special accounts other then the basic ones for what ever reason.
Or at least that is the way I interpreted it.
yes to both, tried safe mode (i seem to be in that a lot as the damn 3gb switch is so effing tempermental)
ive had our VAR onto it and theyre stumped........
Are you also using the /USERVA option with the /3GB switch?
You mentioned that SW has been installed twice. Did you clean out the registry either
time so there was not trace of SW anywhere on the system?
Did either of the times you reinstalled did you get any messages indicating that
something was wrong or didn't get installed?
yes switched to /userva 2600 and its running smoother. (touch wood)
Solidworks has been installed once sorry and now repaired twice (the second time has just been done with the trend micro turned off.
Still no luck, just got off the phone with the VAR and he had no luck again, nothing in the event view and comand prompt didnt show anything. so he's putting a call into solidworks for it!
Edit... There havent been any indications as far as i recall that features have been missed out. if the VAR cant fix it i think a safe mode install with everyhting including the av turned off will be required.........
Have you tried running without the /3GB and /USERVA switches enabled?
Some systems just dont seem to like those.
yep tried both, no difference
