    Simulation:  Simple Beam

      If you took a plain carbon steel plate, .25 x 3.0 x 12.0 and placed a 400 pound load in the middle of it:

       

      Simulation gives you a deflection of .051, the hand calc gives you .121 ....... why the discrepancy? Attached is the file and hand calc.
